Melanated Group Midwifery Care
Melanated Group Midwifery Care (MGMC) is a research project at the University of Illinois Chicago that aims to center the needs of Black women and birthing people with a goal of addressing trust in the healthcare system, attenuating structural racism, and fostering healthier birth outcomes for all families.
In Chicago, the pregnancy related mortality rate is 6x higher for non-Hispanic Black women compared to non-Hispanic white women.
This disparity is a direct consequence of structural racism and historical neglect of Black communities
